Josh Weeks named preseason All-American

BYU wide receiver commit Josh Weeks has steadily seen his stock rise in the national media. Weeks was named a 2011 MaxPreps preseason All-American after the 3A Arizona state record-holder helped his team dominate 5A-1 Phoenix Maryvale 30-0 in a scrimmage held last Saturday, August 13.

Future BYU wide receiver Josh Weeks singlehandedly scored 21 of Show Low's 30 points against their 5A-1 opponent.

In the end, Weeks ended up with a whopping 223 total yards from scrimmage as both a wide receiver and rusher. He caught eight passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns while rushing three times for 75 yards and an additional score. Two of his three touchdowns were on plays of at least 50 yards.

The 6-foot-4-inch, 200-pound Weeks has already set multiple football and track records in the state of Arizona. He's also already secured the 3A career touchdown record (41) and beat the state's total touchdown record with 20 in a season.

Running track over this past summer, Weeks continued to set personal records (11.09 in the 100 meters and a 48.92 in the 400 meters) and Blue Ridge Invitational track meet records last April.

On Wednesday, MaxPreps named Josh Weeks a preseason All-American candidate heading into his senior year after he caught 73 passes for 1,561 yards and 20 touchdowns last season. He was also named an Arizona first-team selection by He needs one more catch to become the 3A all-time pass reception record holder, a record he should beat in the first game of the season.

On top of holding the 3A reception record, Weeks should hold the record for most receptions in all of Arizona's divisions by mid-season this year. With a current total of 149 career catches, Weeks needs just 28 catches to pass Calvin Dacus, who had 176 career catches from 1998-99 to become the state's all-time reception leader.

Congratulations Josh Weeks on your preseason All-American honors, and best of luck as you continue to smash Arizona's receiver records.
