has formed a new strategic alliance with , the most comprehensive independent website that provides BYU football, basketball statistics and historical information as far back as 1948.

Launched in October of 2001, CougarStats is literally a one-man operation run by Courtney Holzendorf, a web designer/producer in the sports department of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Holzendorf and other TBS contributing writers will be developing some great hidden stories from its content and the first will be published tomorrow.

He said CougarStats can best be described as "a thing I do when I should be sleeping."

Cougarstats offers lists ranking every football player to throw, catch, run, tackle, intercept the ball since 1962 and every basketball player who scored a point or recorded an assist, steal or rebound from 1948 to the present.

In addition, it includes more than 250 box scores from past football games and individual player stats for every basketball player from 1948 to the present.

Football rosters dating back to the 1940's are partially completed and will be finished later this year. In other words: "If somebody says they did it, they better have done it. Because now you can look it up," Holzendorf said.

CougarStats has received assistance from a number of individuals, notably Bill Sorenson of Woods Cross, Utah, who donated virtually all of the basketball statistics and KSL statistician Ralph Sokolowsky who provided the original football stats that helped get the site started. is hosted on's servers.
