On the first day of fall camp, the chains were never moved during the team scrimmage at the end of practice. On Friday the chains were used more than on Thursday, albeit still sparingly. As it was only the second day of camp, the players still didn't wear any pads, and they likely won't scrimmage as normal until pads are finally donned.
Riley got several series during scrimmaging. With both of his top receiver targets not available (Cody Hoffman did not practice and instead lifted weights as a one-day punishment for a disciplinary issue, while Ross Apo is being limited for the first week of fall camp because of offseason shoulder surgery) he completed passes to Michael Alisa, Zed Mendehall, Austin Holt, Dallin Cutler and Iona Pritchard. During his second series, he was picked off by safety Daniel Sorensen.
James Lark got just one series, and completed one pass to Richard Wilson, who also dropped a Lark pass the play before.
Taysom Hill got his first scrimmage reps of the fall, completing passes to Jordan Smith and Wilson.
Ammon Olsen also got his first scrimmage reps, and completed a pass to true freshman running back Jamal Williams out of the backfield. Linebacker Kevan Bills batted down a different Olsen pass down at the line of scrimmage.
Alisa, David Foote, Paul Lasike and Pritchard all got carries during scrimmaging.
Notes - Offensive lineman Brock Stringham wore a walking boot on Friday with a reported ankle sprain.
- After the team introduced three outdoor ice baths on Thursday, there were six baths at the outdoor practice field on Friday. As Mendenhall noted in the interview posted above, ice baths themselves are not a new practice, but are simply being prioritized more now. The addition of the outdoor ice baths allow larger groups of players to get the ice baths done quicker now, and the players are instructed to get them within a short amount of time following the end of practice.
