Fall camp report: 8/16/13

The Cougars practiced with shells on Friday morning but took their shoulder pads off for the scrimmage at the end of practice. In other words, hitting wasn't allowed. With recent depth issues that have crept up, the coaches are taking a very cautious approach to the rest of fall camp.

There were three separate drives during the end-of-practice scrimmage on Friday, with a different quarterback leading each one.

First up was Taysom Hill, who completed a 12-yard pass to Skyler Ridley and a 13-yard pass to Paul Lasike. However, three straight incompletions afterward killed the drive.

Next up was Ammon Olsen. He started off by completing a pass to Stehly Reden, and then hit Marcus Mathews for 11 yards. JonRyheem Peoples batted down a pass on the next play, after which Adam Hine had a 5-yard catch. Ridley then got in on the action again with a 22-yard catch. Hine had a 2-yard run, Olsen threw another incompletion, and Nate Carter caught a short pass to finish out the drive. Trevor Samson successfully kicked a 32-yard field goal.

Up last was Jason Munns, who first completed a pass to Devin Mahina, and then to Richard Wilson for about 15 yards. A couple plays were blown dead early as defenders got in the vicinity of Munns while he was trying to find a receiver. Algernon Brown got a couple rushes, one of which went for 11 yards. A short run by Munns ended the drive, and Justin Sorensen got three attempts at a 43-yard field goal. He was successful on two of the three attempts.
