Why I'm Signing with BYU: Kavika Fonua

Considered the top safety in the state of Utah, Kavika Fonua, who recorded one of the best SPARQ scores in the nation for those among his position, gives his thoughts on why come tomorrow he'll be signing his national letter of intent with BYU tomorrow morning.

It came down to two colleges for Syracuse High School safety Kavika Fonua. The state of Utah's top safety prospect, with a NIKE combine recorded 4.4 second forty, gives his thoughts on why he will sign with BYU early tomorrow morning.

"Well, first of all they play great football there and I like the coaches," said Fonua. "This past recruiting trip just confirmed to me that BYU is where I needed to be. I got really close to all the guys in my class of 2014 and I'm excited to be a part of this program in the future.

"It really just goes back to when I was being recruited. The more I thought about it when I was being recruited the more I just felt that BYU was the right school for me. I like the coaches and the letters they were sending me. It just felt more like home there at BYU, so the more I became familiar with BYU the more I felt like it was the right place for me to be."

While Fonua was on his official visit to BYU last weekend, his experiences confirmed the commitment he made to Coach Bronco Mendenhall last August.

"I'm really excited about tomorrow," Fonua said. "Isaiah [Kaufusi] and I were at the hotel during our official recruiting visit to BYU and we were just looking around and thinking, ‘This is it! This is going to be our future.' It was just kind of crazy to think that we were going to be playing together at BYU."

Fonua will sign his national letter of intent bright and early tomorrow around 6:30 AM MT. He'll then fax it to the coaches at BYU.

"Man, I'm signing it like around 6:30," he said. "I have to get up really early. It's going to be awesome and words can't describe it."
