Defensive Line Assignment Shift Announced

Daniel Marquardt, a sophomore standout defensive tackle, is being switched from defensive tackle to defensive end.

Head coach Gary Crowton commented on the move: "Moving Daniel to defensive end will allow us to have our best defensive linemen on the field at the same time. We like Daniel and thought he played very well for us last season.

"We have a lot of guys that are capable of playing nose tackle; primarily guys like Manaia Brown and Ifo Pili, along with Justin Carlson. Moving Marquardt to defensive end just will help allow us to have our best defensive linemen on the field at the same time. He'll compete with Bill Wright at that position."

Defensive line coach Steve Kaufusi noted that "nothing is permanent; we just want to see what Daniel can do at that position. He's not the only one. We'll try Manaia and other guys at defensive end as well and they'll most likely play there some. We just want to see what Daniel can do there."

Crowton added: "Because the scheme is so versatile, having Daniel at DE will help shore up the line more against teams that like to run it up the middle and during short yardage situations."
