Walk-on Cade McMullin Quits Team to Support Family

Cade McMullin, a redshirt junior offensive lineman from Rick's College who turned down scholarship offers out of junior college to walk-on and play for BYU, is no longer with the team. BYU head football coach Gary Crowton confirmed it today.

"I didn't see McMullin play in the JV game. He's a walk-on and he's an upperclassman that didn't get a scholarship. He's married and he has children, so he has to get a job and we wish him the best," Crowton said, adding, "It was a decision made based on providing for his family's needs primarily. He wanted to be on the team, but with Ofa (Mohetau) coming in and Scott Young and others playing so well, I just couldn't afford to give him a scholarship.

"I gave one earlier to Gary McGiven, who I feel is a little better football player and younger. Cade is a very good football player and I wish him the best," Crowton concluded.
