Todd Watkins Will Decide as Early as Next Week

BYU's apparent No. 1 wide receiver JC recruiting priority, a 6-3, 182-pound First-Team JC All-American from Grossmont Junior College with reported 4.28 forty speed, will likely decide as early as next week where he will enroll in early January.

"I guess I have to decide since I need to enroll by early January. It's a tough decision, but I'll make it."

Todd Watkins has narrowed down his suitors to four colleges: Oregon State, Kansas State, BYU and Hawaii. He has tripped to Oregon State, BYU and recently returned from his official recruiting trip to Kansas State.

Asked to provide his up-to-the-moment perspective of the four schools he is considering, Watkins provided his status evaluation:

KANSAS STATE: "It's a first-rate program, to be sure. They're definitely the top football program of all the schools I'm considering right now. That's what makes them attractive, although they already have some JC receivers coming in and some good ones in the program."

OREGON STATE: "I believe that they have the best coaching staff of the four schools I'm considering. They also probably have the best offense. They also have a lot of wide receivers coming in, but I really like their coaches and have a lot of confidence in them."

BYU: "I'd be ‘the man' there from day one, I believe. Coaches there have told me they will make me a focal point of their offense and that's definitely attractive."

Another positive-leaning factor for BYU would be Watkins' relationship renewal with former Grossmont alum, Reynaldo Brathwaite. "Rey is the man. I'd definitely love to represent Grossmont with him." Watkins added the facilities and overall feel of the campus are other things that also attract him to BYU.

HAWAII: "It would probably be a great place to live for a few years. They've had some great wide receivers come out of there like Ashley Lelie, so that's a plus." Watkins plans to visit Hawaii shortly after Christmas.

Does Watkins have a favorite? "No, all schools are on equal ground right now. I was sort of leaning toward Kansas State and Oregon State, but BYU has come on strong lately. I like what they have to offer. I also want to check out Hawaii before making any decision."

Watkins main goal is to play in the NFL, which shouldn't be much of a problem for the gifted athlete. "That's always been my dream and playing for a school that would help me best achieve that will certainly be a top consideration."
