Gerald McRath Rates Visit to Provo

"I really liked BYU, but I'd still say that Southern Miss and Auburn are my two favorites. But BYU is definitely a school I'll consider come LOI day."

That's the word today from Gerald McRath, 6-2, 208 pound linebacker/defensive back prospect from McEachern High School (Georgia), after his weekend recruiting visit to the BYU campus in Provo.

"I liked it more than I thought I would. The main thing was the facilities. I mean, those facilities are first rate. I also like the coaching staff and the players.

"The thing that makes BYU so attractive is their defense. Coach (Bronco) Mendenhall knows what he's doing and playing in his system would be great. He wants me to play linebacker, although I can play safety as well. Knowing that I can come in and play right away is something that I like about my options at BYU."

McRath, who is also being heavily courted by Southern Mississippi, Auburn and other colleges, added BYU increased its standing in the schools he'll consider signing with.

He has taken his trip to Southern Mississippi and will trip to Auburn shortly. "I like Southern Miss since it's close to home and I really liked my trip there. I'll have a better understanding of where I need to sign after I trip to Auburn. I'll probably decide soon after that trip.
