Tyrone Jackson Names Top Three

A highly sought-after junior college point guard from Fresno City Community College is now focused on which Div. 1 college he'll play for next season – and BYU is not currently listed among his top three choices.

The reason may lay in a statement Tyrone Jackson made in an earlier story on TotalBlueSports.com: "They're (BYU) a good team. I just want to have fun wherever I go," Jackson said, noting one of the negatives about BYU would be "living far away and a different living style, like the women thing" (a reference to the Cougars' stringent Honor Code).

The 6-2, 200 pound Jackson confirmed that "USC, Arizona State and San Diego State are my top choices right now."

All three schools have completed in-home visits with Jackson and he took his official visit to Arizona State several weeks ago. "I don't have a favorite right now. I want to explore all of my options and then decide."

His JC coach, Vance Walberg, said this of his star player in a previous TBS article: "Without a doubt, Tyrone is the most highly recruited player since I've been here (two years). Whatever school gets him is going to be very lucky. He just has the ability to find a way to win. Tyrone just hates to lose. He's a top-notch competitor."

Jackson added "I just want to go to the school where I can play right away and really help the team. Arizona State had a down year this past season, but they will be back. My (home) visit with their coaches went very well and I was very impressed." He said he is in the process of scheduling official trips to both San Diego State and USC, noting the increased attention these schools have given him is because none of them received bids to play in post-season tournaments.

"Some other schools that showed previous interest have dropped off recently; schools like UConn and BYU, but I know it's because they're in the (NCAA) tournament. My interest isn't real high right now in a school like BYU, but they haven't contacted me for a while. But BYU is definitely a school I will consider if they show me interest," Jackson said.
