BYU Pulls the Trigger. . .Sort Of

BYU announces changes in its head coaching position. Head Coach Gary Crowton has resigned and the university has tapped Lance Reynolds to fill in as an interim head coach. The search for a permanent head coach is already under way.

A gracious Gary Crowton addressed those gathered in LaVell Edwards Stadium on a brisk Wednesday afternoon. The embattled coach announced that he would step aside as the head coach and allow the program to move in a new direction. Crowton thanked those who gave him a shot at the job of his childhood dreams.

After taking a few questions from the press, Crowton walked out the doorway to a new, BYU-less life.

He leaves behind a 26-23 record and a team laden with maturing talent. Unfortunately, there is still much uncertainty surrounding the program. Lance Reynolds was named the interim head of the football team.

With that announcement, a new cloud of speculation forms over the program. A nationwide search for a permanent head coach is now under way giving plenty of fodder to sports radio shows and internet fan sites. Questions about which assistant coaches will be retained are already being asked.

Undoubtedly, BYU administrators will move forward as quickly as possible to put an end to the uncertainty. TBS is witnessing firsthand what uncertainty surrounding team leadership can do. For the last month BYU recruits have expressed concerns about committing to BYU due to the unsure status of the head coach.

Only time will tell how the coaching situation will be resolved. Until then, TBS will be there for all the developments and rumors of developments.
