The BYU Athletic Department issued a press statement today regarding the ongoing search for a new head coach for its football team. In the statement Tom Holmoe, Senior Associate Athletics Director, thanked the community for their support during the search process.
Holmoe also acknowledged the public interest in BYU's coaching decision. In the 11 days since Gary Crowton's departure, fan sites and talk radio shows have worked themselves into a frenzy speculating who will man the helm of the university's most high profile team next season.
BYU has continually indicated that it is being very thorough in its search so as to find the candidate that provides the greatest chance of restoring the football program to national prominence. Holmoe's concluding comments in the most recent press release seem to indicate that the time for speculation is nearly ended. Said Holmoe, "We expect to announce a decision soon."
