For his performance, Beck joins Minnesota running back Laurence Maroney who had a career-high 217 yards on 46 carries as the Golden Gophers beat Purdue in a 42-35 overtime win, and Michigan State QB Drew Stanton who passed for 259 yards and five touchdowns to set a new Spartan record in their 61-14 win against Illinois. Also nominated for the award is California running back Justin Forsett who had a career high of 234 rushing yards and one touchdown in the Golden Bear's 41-13 win over New Mexico State.
Previous Cingular/All-America Player of the Week winners this season include Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockley, Texas quarterback Vince Young and Texas A&M quarterback Reggie McNeal, and now BYU fans can add John Beck to that list.
