Recruit Profile: Mike Muehlman

Mike Muehlman plays in BYU's backyard at American Fork high school which lies a little north of Provo, but the first potential suitor came from the school up north. Utah's coaches proffered the 6'5", 230-lbs prospect his first offer to play college football for Kyle Whittingham and company.

"Utah offered me verbally about a month ago," said Mike Muehlman. "Coach Whittingham and Coach Anderson told me they wanted to offer me a scholarship to play for them and I verbally committed to them."

Although Muelhman accepted Utah's offer he is still accepting and considering other offers. Primary among these offers is BYU, the favorite school of the Muelhmans. BYU is pursuing Muelhman and has extended an offer according to the Defensive End prospect.

"Soon after Utah offered me I called Bronco Mendenhall and talked to him about the possibility of playing at BYU and they offered me verbally after talking to Coach Tidwell and other coaches," explained Muehlman.

Muehlman is also hearing from Colorado and Utah State but has not received any offers outside of BYU and Utah as of yet. "I'm going to hold out until February and consider all my options before I sign. Utah is the school I'm committed to right now, but like I said, I'll consider other offers," said Muehlman.

Muehlman is currently in the middle of a very productive season playing both sides of the ball for the Cavemen of American Fork who currently stand at 5-1. Muehlman, who plays the tight end position, is the leading receiver for American Fork hauling in 16 of the 19 passes thrown to him and has three touchdowns. He has also recorded six sacks to go along with his forty tackles.

"Both Utah and BYU want me as a defensive end and I'm fine with that," Muelhman said. Muelhman attended both BYU's and Utah's summer camps and has been recorded running a 4.8 forty.
