Recruiting Update: Cameron Ely

When TBS spoke with Cameron Ely of Santa Barbara, Calif. last fall, there was not much happening on the recruiting front for the quarterback. According to a recent email from the San Marcos High School product, however, things have picked up.

TBS received the following email from Cameron Ely.

Hi Brad,

As you may know I visited BYU, loved it and all the people, and afterwards had a visit from Coach Lamb here at my home. However, things are moving in other directions, primarily toward the ACC.

It seems that as the recruiting season ends there are still many undecided situtations out there. I am looking for the right combination of school and QB fit. That is not an easy task, as you might well imagine.

I still have interest in BYU and CSU, Utah etc., but schools like Nebraska have re-entered the picture. Nebraska has a great coach in Bill Callahan who has instituted a spread offense. That is great for a QB. Also, there are still some Pac-10 spots open that are very interesting, and may be coming around after dropping off with my public statement of preference for Stanford. Also, there is still the Ivy League option with three schools there offering the opportunity.

However, one school that has come on the scene at the last minute here is rapidly becoming my new favorite. Duke. When the whole recruiting process began Duke was one of the schools sending me the most mail. I have only now begun to realize what a great school Duke is and what a great opportunity it could be for a QB. The more I talk about it and learn about it, the more it seems to make sense for me. They are in a rebuilding phase and it would be nice to be part of it. I will try to make a visit to Duke soon. My other visits to Stanford, USC, and BYU will be good comparisons for me.

I have verbals, but I have no written offers from anyone.
