The Brooks Camp Likes BYU

Brannon Brooks is an impressive, 5-foot-10, 175-pound defensive back from Elk Grove, California. He already has one scholarship offer, and checked in to find out how things are going for the versatile athlete.

Michael Brooks, father of Brannon Brooks, is very involved in the recruiting process for his son. The two made a trip to BYU to check out the campus and the environment in Provo, Utah.

"He's still working through the process right now," Michael said. "He just finished the Nike camp, and has canceled any other camps or visits this summer. He's just going to do summer school."

If it were up to Brannon's parents to decide where their son would go to college, he would likely be wearing Cougar blue a year from September.

"Brigham Young is my favorite school for Brannon," said Michael. "It's also my wife's favorite, but it's going to be Brannon's decision, and he likes BYU a lot too."

BYU is the only school to officially offer Brannon, but he is still hearing from many others school, most notably Oregon and Arizona.

"I've told Brannon the Mountain West Conference is a passing conference," Michael said. "That's were the money is at for a defensive back. Brannon really likes Coach Mendenhall's defensive philosophy. If Brannon played in the Pac-10 he might not see the field for the first two years, but at BYU I think he could step in sometime during his first season and help the team."

Michael said BYU is actively recruiting two other players from Brannon's football team, but the two have not yet been offered.

"We want to have made a verbal commitment before the season starts," Michael said. "Once we make a commitment that's it. A commitment is a commitment."

Michael said Brannon is an extremely athletic person who runs track and plays basketball. He had one parting comment for BYU faithful that should encourage BYU faithful.

"BYU is the family favorite," Michael said. "We really like Brigham Young University."
