"Meeting the players, talking to them seeing the facilities and meeting with the coaches made my decision very easy. Once I saw everything, I knew it would be a good place for me."
The scholarship offer came shortly after Friel left BYU following the conclusion of the first ever full contact padded football camp on the Provo campus.
Friel is 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds. He played wide receiver for Kamehameha-Oahu High School last season. He ran a 4.63 forty at the PIAA Combine in Hawaii. He also posted a 4.4-second shuttle, a 30-inch vertical jump, and 15 reps with the 185-pound bar. Those number are impressive, especially considering the fact that the senior-to-be is only 16.
During BYU's camp, Friel played tight end, linebacker, defensive end, and running back. He received top tight end and top outside linebacker honors at the conclusion of camp. He was offered as an athlete and his position will be determined when he arrives at BYU next summer.
Check back late tonight for the full story on Friel's commitment.
