Offer Still Open for Tupou

With 21 verbal commitments already in for BYU's recruiting class of 2007, there are only a precious few unclaimed football scholarships remaining. At this point, any recruit who is still receiving attention from Cougar coaches must fill a specific need or be an exceptional prospect. Californian D-line recruit Christian Tupou meets both requirements.

"Coach Doman calls me every week," Christian Tupou said. "I plan on visiting BYU in January."

Right now Tupou, who is LDS, has official offers from Sacramento State, Nevada, Arizona, BYU, and Nebraska.

"I'm going to visit Nebraska the end of September and Arizona on October 20th," said Tupou.

The two-way lineman from Sacramento's Grant Union High School, helped his team to an early 2-0 record. He has not kept track of his stats, but he said he has a lot of tackles.

"On offense I've been playing guard and on defense nose guard," Tupou said. "We are a real young team, but we should be good."

The 6-foot-3, 285-pound football player, said he has no favorite at this point.

"I'm going to take all my visits before I make a decision," Topou said. "When I visit these schools, I'm looking for a certain feeling that tells me this is the place I want to be. I am also looking for early playing time, but all the schools have been telling me that."

Topou said he was able to catch the first half of the BYU vs. Arizona game.

"It was pretty good," Topou said. "BYU is known as a throwing team, but I like teams that are hard nose and just run it down your throats."

Topou expects to end up on the defensive line in college. He said that seeing BYU play freshman on the D-line against Arizona did not sway him toward the Cougars.

Fresno State told Tupou that he has a scholarship offer, but he has not received anything in writing. He said he still gets a lot of letters from Notre Dame too.
