Future Cougar Report: Steven Thomas

BYU commit Steven Thomas does it all for his Chino Hills Huskies. Whether it is catching a pass for a crucial first down, making a big tackle to keep the other team out of the end zone, or setting up excellent field position with long return, Thomas is there his team needs him. Such was the case in Chino Hills' latest victory.

Last Friday, Chino Hills High School continued to roll through its conference and on toward a league championship.

"This past week was our fourth league game against Diamond Bar High School," Steven Thomas said. "We beat them 35-7. Midway through the third quarter, the starters on offense and defense were taken out to give the second string some reps."

In two-and-a-half quarters, Thomas recorded four tackles and three receptions for a total of 48 yards.

Much like in previous games, , Diamond Bar coaches elected to played it safe on special teams by kicking away from Thomas.

"Their punter would not punt the ball to me so I did not get any returns," Thomas said. "But on the opening kickoff I had a 48-yard return."

Thomas did return late in the game for a goal line stand that would force a Diamond Bar field goal attempt. The BYU -bound safety stayed on the field to finish the job he started.

"On [the field goal attempt], I came off the right side and laid out for the block," recalled Thomas. "The ball hit off my helmet and bounced 30 yards downfield. I got off the ground to get the ball and scooped it up for a 10-yard run before I was tackled."

Tomorrow Thomas and the 4-0 Chino Hills High School Huskies will take on 4-0 Damien High School for the league title. Stay tuned for a report from TBS…
