After redshirting as a 17-year-old and then getting his first D-I action the following year against college football icon Notre Dame, big R.J. Willing spent two years as a LDS missionary in the southwest United States. He is now back in Provo playing with the first team offense.
is big, strong and athletic for his size. The former Kamehameha High School offensive line star performed well under Coach Crowton and played for the former Cougar head coach as a redshirt freshman following a rare heart condition Eddie Keele
was suffering from at the time.
Now back from serving a LDS mission to New Mexico, Willing is playing offensive tackle on the first team offensive line in place of another teammate, Dallas Reynolds, who is in the process of healing from an injury suffered last season.
Willing talks about a few experience at BYU prior to his mission, a few mission experiences and how things have changed at BYU since Coach Mendenhall took over the program.
