BYU Set To Have Rematch Against UCLA

The 2007 Las Vegas Bowl - set for Saturday, December 22 at 5 p.m. (PST) - will feature a rematch between the BYU Cougars and the UCLA Bruins.

BYU and UCLA previously played each other September 8, the second week of the season, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Despite being outgained 435 yards to 236, the Bruins won the game by a score of 27-17.

UCLA, then ranked No. 13, jumped out to a 20-0 lead by the second quarter, but the Cougars scored the next 17 points before their comeback bid fell short.

BYU finished the regular season with a record of 10-2, and also earned its second-consecutive undefeated conference record. The Cougars are currently ranked No. 17 in the BCS standings, and No. 19 in the AP and USA Today polls.

Meanwhile, UCLA finished the regular season with a 6-6 record. The Bruins compiled 5-4 record in the Pac-10, which tied them with the Oregon Ducks for fourth place in the conference. UCLA won the head-to-head matchup between the Bruins and the Ducks.

UCLA's selection to play in the Las Vegas Bowl means that BYU will end up having played the Bruins three times within about a year. UCLA travels to Provo to take on the Cougars next season.
