Updated: BYU athletic facilities

It's snowing in Provo, but work is continuing on the two new athletic facilities. Concrete work on the Student Athlete Center should finish by the end of December and workers hope to start the steel work on January 6th. It should take about five weeks from then for the skeleton the building to be finished. Work on the Indoor Practice Facility will end soon and then resume in the Spring. Both will be completed in early Fall.

Student Athlete Center

The Student Athlete Center will be a three story complex that will house all of the football operations, along with a student academic center for all sports, a new weight room, restaurant and memorabilia store. In addition, the athletic administration offices will be located on the 3rd floord. The SAC is being built on part of the practice field and is directly north of the Smith Fieldhouse.

Concrete workers are busy on Tuesday morning

Early Tuesday morning, the concrete pouring for the main floor of the Student Athlete Center began.  This section of the building supports the two-story weight room, requiring a thick concrete floor.

The Indoor Practice Facility will be an enormous building with an exterior roof that peaks at 93 feet. Inside will be a full football field with endzones and adequate runoff space on the perimeter. It is located directly west of the Smith Fieldhouse, covering about half of Haws Field.

Construction for both is scheduled to conclude in September or October depending upon how favorable the weather conditions are this winter.
