Cougar Snapshots 3/22

Total Blue Sports photographer Troy Verde braved the wind and cold to photograph the Cougars in action during Monday's practice. Here are some of the images he captured.

From one quarterback to another: Jake Heaps throws a pass to walk-on quarterback Andrew Pulsipher during warm-up drills.

Heaps goes under center during drills.

BYU defensive coordinator Coach Hill puts the defensive backs through the drills.

Coach Mendenhall smiles while walking towards his group of young but talented quarterbacks.

Left guard Ryan Freeman looks to make an impact this season on BYU's offensive line and is faring well early in spring camp.

After playing a big role in BYU's success last year, junior running back Bryan Kariya looks to be another contributor within the Cougar offense this year.

Joining Kariya in the running back drills is redshirt freshman Malosi Te'o.

Converted tight end Marcus Mathews catches a pass during passing drills. At 6 feet 4 inches and 227 pounds, Mathews provides the Cougar quarterbacks with a large target.

Speaking of large targets, here is 6-foot-6-inch, 225-pound tight end Devin Mahina reaching out to make a catch.

Although young, Mahina is both big and athletic and figures to be right in the mix of the race to replace former Cougar tight ends Dennis Pitta and Andrew George.

Freshman center Houston Reynolds barks out calls to the rest of the offensive line.
