BYU Receives Top OL Commit

BYU coaches received a phone call from American Fork's Ryker Mathews Tuesday night, informing them that he was committing to their program. Mathews is the top offensive lineman prospect in the state of Utah and a very big pickup for BYU.

Ryker Mathews is a 6-foot-6-inch, 270-pound offensive line prospect from American Fork High School and is widely regarded as the top in-state offensive lineman prospect in the state of Utah and one of the top prospects nationally.

BYU fought hard with the University of the Utah for his services, with both schools putting out all the stops to lure him to their respective programs. It was a very tough decision for him, but he ultimately chose BYU for its tradition, standards and because of his close relationship with BYU offensive line coach Mark Weber.

Mathews is planning to graduate early and join BYU in January in order to participate in spring practices. We'll have much more on Mathews and his commitment Wednesday night.
