Coach Daniels' Gets a One-year Extension

The contract of Cal State Fullerton Head Men's Basketball Coach Donny Daniels today was renewed to carry through the 2004-05 season. The 2003-04 season is the remaining year on the 4-year contract he signed when hired on Apr. 20, 2000.

"I feel very good about what is happening with the program," said Director of Athletics Brian Quinn. "Donny has it headed in the right direction and we are really pleased."

The Titans went 10-19 in the 2002-03 season and were 8-10 in Big West Conference play despite a rash of serious injuries that affected all five returning lettermen. Despite suiting up as few as seven or eight players for several mid-season games, Fullerton had its best conference record in 10 years and reached double figures in victories for the first time in four years. Fullerton beat every Big West opponent except tournament champion Utah State.

"I appreciate the vote of confidence from Brian Quinn and the administration," said Daniels, whose career record is 20-64. "I'm pleased with the progress we made this year."

TitanCentral.com Spin: Quite frankly, we are disappointed. A one-year extension?! Who are we kidding here? Three years at a minimum and four years would have really shown the school is committed to turning this program around.
