Prep Long Jump Star Signs with Titans

Track coach John Elders signs another quality athlete.

Aaron Williams, one of the top high school long jumpers in the nation for Diamond Ranch High School in Pomona in 2001, has signed a national letter of intent to continue his track and field career at Cal State Fullerton.

Williams has a career best jump of 24-3 1/2. He was the runnerup in the CIF state meet and adds to an already deep and talented group of Titan jumpers. Head Coach John Elders and jumps coach Mike Powell, the current world record holder, saw the Titans place Nos. 1, 5, 8 and 9 in the Big West Conference long jump championships in 2001 and second and third in the triple jump. Spin: With all the signings -- good ones mind you -- Elders has secured you would thin the Rios controversy has help recruiting. I'm sure having Mike Powell on the staff doesn't hurt. Our only real question is, can he play hoop?
