The good news is that Blake Hawksworth, a highly regarded pitcher out of Seattle, has not given up in his quest to become a Titan. However, Hawksworth won't be a Titan this fall and has decided to go the JC route for a semester. If he passes the SAT, which he will take in the October-December time frame, he would be eligible for the the spring and just in time for the 2002 season.
St. Louis, which drafted Hawksworth in the 28th round, has offered him a nice sum of money but he seems committed to get some experience at the college level. For more information on Blake, check out our baseball recruiting page.
It is not that uncommon for a player to make an impact on the program after missing the first semester. In fact, Brett Kay went through similar circumstances when he came to Cal State Fullerton.
Study hard Blake, you're very close.
Sergio Brown, a member of the 1995 Championship team, has been hired as part of the staff for the Titans. He was recently at Cypress College handling, among other things, recruiting. He should be a nice
In other news, former Cal State Fullerton pitcher Dan Ricabal has been hired to become the UCSB pitching coach.
Also of note, Broadcast.com will not be carrying the Titan games over the internet and this includes baseball. Not good news, especially after the loss OCN earlier this year. Other options are being looked at to continue broadcasting the games and we are confident something will happen before the start of the 2002 season.
