A big Titan Hoop Club "thank you" to all who attended last night's "Back to School / Meet Bob Burton" event in Titan Gym.
Frankly, we didn't receive a lot of feedback, so we really weren't sure how many people to expect. Needless to say, the pizza and Buffalo wings went quickly!
The turnout surpassed anything I could have hoped for, and I think that Coach Burton was really pleased with the evening. It was a great welcome for our new head coach, and I think that it was a very visible demonstration that Titan fans are excited about the '03-'04 squad, and coming season.
In addition to the large group of fans and Titan Hoop Club members, A.D. Brian Quinn, and Assistant A.D.'s Mel Franks and Steve DiTolla were in attendance. New women's basketball head coach Maryalyce "Dr. J" Jeremiah also stopped by.
Coach Burton promised an uptempo style of play, and is excited about the new and returning players that will comprise the '03-'04 squad. Burton preached that "toughness" would be one of his goals. Challenging non-league games at Northern Arizona, ASU, and USC should make for interesting early tests.
We were saddened to learn that Fedi Holm-Hadullah would not be returning to the squad. Apparently his knee problem is even worse than suspected. Continued play could eventually even endanger his ability to walk. Fedi was perhaps our most consistent 3-point threat, and will be missed greatly. However, his long-term health is certainly the utmost priority, and we wish him well.
School starts on Monday, so we should soon be able to nail down a complete roster. For those of you on the Titan Hoop Club mailing list, look for a newsletter in September. Practice starts in mid-October, and our next event, the "3rd Annual Titan Hoop Club Blue / White Scrimmage" is tentatively slated for Sunday, October 26.
Thanks again to all who showed up last night, and Go Titans!
