Only a few short months until the start of the baseball season but there is no shortage of news to report.
First of all, some of you have been wondering about the annual Family Fun Day. The event will take place on Saturday, October 27th. A clinic will take place between 10 and noon. Practice starts at 12:15pm and the scrimmage is scheduled for 1:40pm.
Rumor Mill: It was reported on our message boards that freshman sensation Shane Costa is enrolled at a local JC. This is true and he is not eligible to participate in the fall workouts. Once he completes the required courses he will be eligible in time for the 2001 season. According to sources, this shouldn't be a problem.
Also of note is Blake Hawksworth. The highly regarded pitcher from Washington is currently enrolled at a JC but he has been recently declared a partial qualifier. According to one source, even if he doesn't get the necessary SAT score to play in January he will still be able to enroll at Cal State Fullerton for the spring semester. He will also be able to practice but will have to sit out a year.
Lastly, in recruiting news, Cal State Fullerton had the best recruiting class among fellow Big West schools, according to a press release by Collegiate Baseball. The Titans ranked number 13 in the nation after being ranked number one last year.
Here's the top 13 plus some other teams of note:
|13||Cal State Fullerton||14||9||2||3|
|29||Long Beach State||18||11||6||1|
|35*||Cal Poly SLO|
|60*||San Diego State|
