Titan Basketball Notebook

Lots of information coming out of the Sports Information Department at Cal State Fulerton and TitanCentral.com gives you the latest on Titan Basketball.

This isn't Sports Illustrated
True freshman point guard Bobby "LB" Brown (Westchester HS) has scored more points (48) through his first four games than any other Titan true freshman since 1980-81.

Tony Neal, who played four years for the Titans, is runnerup with 41 points in 1981-82.

Some others? Kenroy Jarrett had 11 points in 1995-96, Wayne Williams scored 32 in 1988-89, Eugene Jackson 15 in 1984-85 and Chris Smith netted 17 in 2000-01.

Okay, don't blame TitanCentral.com if LB produces a donut on Saturday night.

Shooting the lights out
Cal State Fullerton's 61.2 field goal shooting percentage at Pepperdine on Monday night is second best one-game effort in 13 seasons. The only better percentage was in 2002-03 season when the Titans lost to Utah State and shot 61.9%.

Here's a list of all the games in which Fullerton has shot better than 60% (since the 1982-83 season):

.682 vs. Utah State on Feb. 3, 1990
.682 vs. McNeese State on Nov. 25, 1983
.659 vs. UC Irvine on Jan. 16, 1986
.644 vs. Pepperdine on Jan. 4, 1983
.635 vs. Hawaii on Nov. 27, 1983
.627 vs. San Jose State on Jan. 29, 1983
.619 vs. Utah State on Jan. 25, 2003
.615 vs. Pacific on Jan. 13, 1990
.612 vs. Pepperdine on Dec. 1, 2003 (.6122 - 30 of 49)
.612 vs. Northern Arizona on Nov. 27, 1982 (.6119 - 41 of 67)
.611 vs. Portland on Dec. 10, 1987
.605 vs. UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 23, 1991
.604 vs. College of Notre Dame on Dec. 2, 2000
.604 vs. Columbia on Dec. 30, 1996
.603 vs. Cal Poly on Feb. 27, 1997

This now means that only five in the last 334 games dating to late 1990-91 season have the Titans hit the 60% plateau.

So who else was paying attention?
On the bus ride home from Pepperdine, Coach Bob Burton got congratulatory phone calls on his cell phone from the likes of Bob Williams (UCSB), Jerry Tarkanian and Ben Howland...

Pape Sow getting attention ... again
Titan Gym will be filled on Saturday night but it won't be new fans in attendance. Nine NBA scouts have been granted credentials for the rematch against Northern Arizona. A few recognizable names on the list, including Memphis General Manager Jerry West and John Paxson from the Chicago Bulls.

Here's the full list list of NBA scouts coming to Saturday night's game

Mike Bratz, Cleveland
Jerry West, Memphis
Ryan West, Memphis
Nedjeljko Ostarcevic, Indiana
John Paxson, Chicago
Gar Foreman, Chicago
Marury Hanks, New Jersey
Mark Warkentien, Portland
Herb Livsey, Portland

Ironically, two of these scouts have ties to the Titans. Portland's Assistant General Manager Mark
Warkenstien is a 1976 graduate of Cal State Fullerton while Herb Livsey taught at the school.

To play or not to play
Latest word has injured shooting guard David Warsaw making his first appearance this Saturday barring anymore setbacks. The high ankle sprain may be something he just has to live with so expect Warsaw to play at least some limited minutes.
