Pregame Report - Baylor Bears

Baylor takes a 3-0 record into a Tuesday night game vs. SMU. The Bears have won handily (36.3 ppg margin) at home against Hardin-Simmons, Texas-Arlington and Sacred Heart. The Bears had 63 assists and only 40 turnovers in those three games. Baylor has won the only meeting between the two schools, a decisive 80-50 victory last Dec. 16 in Titan Gym.

Last year Chad Elsey celebrated his first game eligible by coming off the bench for 20 points to help the Bears to a 5-0 start to their season. Josh Fischer had 15 points to lead the Titans, who also got four 3-pointers and 12 points from Ryan Dillon.

6-6 Senior Chad Elsey and 6-8 freshman Lawrence Roberts lead the Bears in scoring with 18.3 ppg. The Bears have a very deep bench, evidenced by the fact that nine Baylor players are averaging more than 14 minutes per game. The player with the highest minutes played is freshman John Lucas, who averages 27.7 minutes. Additionally, through three early wins, Baylor's bench has outscored its opponent's bench by an average of 31.3 to 21.3

Dave Bliss Quote: "We are unbelievable inexperienced, but our talent level has increased. I think, in the end, we will end up being a better basketball team than we were at any point last season. We can't be as dependent on just two players like last season."

Playing Baylor two days after they play SMU can't hurt but they will have to play as well as they did against LMU on Saturday and Baylor will have to underestimate the Titans to have any chance.

But that's a huge improvement to think the Titans could pull this out. Before Saturday no one felt this game was winnable.

We can not afford to fall behind early or this could have a snowball effect being on the road. Any game where the Titans are still in it with five minutes left will be a good game.
