Pregame Report - Sacramento State Hornets

Sacramento State is 2-4 after a 72-61 home victory Monday night over Southern Utah. Joel Jones scored 17 points and Cedric Thompkins had 16 as the Hornets shot 51 per cent from the floor. Sacramento State lost to Wofford and Old Dominion in Memphis and at San Jose State and Saint Mary's. Its other win came at home over Menlo College.

Guard Joe Dawson leads the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game. Thompkins is the top rebounder at 5.7. Head Coach Jerome Jenkins is 7-26 in his second year. Sacramento State leads the series, 4-3, but the teams haven’t met since Dec. 10, 1982, when Ricky Mixon scored 18 points to lead the Titans to a 104-75 win in Titan Gym. To put the time-frame in perspective, four games later those Titans faced Charles Barkley of Auburn in a tournament in Salt Lake City.

TitanCentral.com's Key's to Winning: As easy as this game looked before the season started doesn't look quite so easy. The Titans are coming off two road losses -- a total annihilation by Baylor and another 10+ loss to Wyoming. Another loss looms for the Titans if the shooting does not improve.

Shooting 37% wouldn't seem so bad if they played some defense. They are allowing a field goal percentage of 50.1% and 40% from three point land. Ouch. The Titans assist to turnover ratio is also very poor. They are dishing out 3 assists to every 5 turnovers whereas opponents are about one for one.

To win on the road, the Titans have to do the following: Out-rebound the Hornets by 8, FG percentage of over 45% and have less than 15 turnovers. Anything less they probably lose.
