Pregame report - UC Irvine Anteaters

The Titans (3-8, 0-2) return to Big West Conference play after concluding their non-conference schedule in snowy Flagstaff, Arizona. The Titans have lost three games in a row, all in frustrating fashion. They lost Big West games to Cal Poly and UCSB by a total of three points and then got beat at the foul line by Northern Arizona, which hit 27 of 37 free throws to Fullerton's 9 of 12 effort.

ABOUT THE ANTEATERS The defending Big West champions and favorites to repeat are off to a 1-0 start with a home win over Long Beach State. They are 8-4 overall and just won the championship of the Oneida Classic at Wisconsin-Green Bay with wins over Lipscomb and Boston University. Jerry Green, reigning Big West MVP and MVP of the Oneida Classic, is averaging 23.3 points but is getting plenty of help from newcomer Jordan Harris (11.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and letterman center Adam Parada (10.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg). The Anteaters are 4-0 this year in the Bren Center, where Fullerton has had great success in recent years. The Titans lost there last year, 58-55, but had won the previous four trips and eight of the previous nine. The Titans are 9-6 in the Bren Center and lead the all-time series with UCI, 39-32.

Other Resources ESPN, Yahoo!, CNN/SI ESPN, Yahoo!, CNN/SI's Key's to Winning: Confidence is waning in Titan-land after another apparent setback, this time in Arizona. Cal State Fullerton will need some, no, a lot of luck to defeat UC Irvine. We may have a slight advantage, talent-wise, in the post but UCI has a big advantage at the guard position.

Looking at the boxscores, the Anteaters are not that deep. They have eight players who play but only five who are averaging more than 2.5 points a game. We need to get them in foul trouble, especially center Adam Parada. After Parada, is JR Christ and Dave Korfman (Think Mitch Deve) and there is no way they will be able to contain Pape Sow.

My Keys to Winning would be to stop Jerry Green. Rotate Campbell, Richardson and Andrew on him. On offense they will need to pound the ball into Sow who will need to make at least 12 field goals for a win. The Titans will need a POTW performance from Pape as well as adequate support from the others.
