GAME NOTES: The Cal State Fullerton Titans shoot for their 12th straight home win tonight, as they host the Pacific Tigers in Big West Conference action from Titan Gym. The Titans were able to keep their home win streak alive on Thursday, as they held off Cal State Northridge, 76-72. It was the sixth win in the last seven games by the Titans, whose last home loss came against Pacific, 67-62, on February 9th of last season. Now at 11-3 overall, Fullerton is off to its best start since the 1983-84 team opened up 13-2. As for Pacific, it has enjoyed a fast start to BWC play thanks to back-to-back wins over Cal State Northridge (68-64) and most recently UC Riverside (62-49). With those victories, the Tigers ran their overall mark to 5-9 on the season. Pacific leads the all-time series with Fullerton, 41-29, and it has won the last six meetings and 14 of the last 15 overall. The Tigers have also come out victorious in their last seven visits to Titan Gym.
The Tigers shot a solid 53.3 percent from the field and made 7-of-16 three- point attempts, as they posted a 13-point win over UC Riverside on Thursday. Anthony Brown led the charge with a double-double that consisted of 18 points and 15 rebounds. On the season, Brown is the team's top scorer (15.4 ppg) and rebounder (8.3 rpg) and he is also shooting 50.7 percent from the field. Steffan Johnson chips in 11.6 ppg and he has been the one responsible for running the offense with a team-best 4.4 apg to his credit. As a team, Pacific is netting 65.5 ppg and making good on 44.5 percent of its field goal attempts.
The Titans connected on 48.2 percent of their shots from the floor and 13-of-33 from behind the arc, as they held off CS Northridge for a four-point victory. Bobby Brown poured in a game-high 23 points and dished out six assists in the win, while Frank Robinson logged 17 points and eight rebounds. On the season, Brown has clearly been the team's go-to guy, as he is averaging a healthy 21.3 ppg and 5.2 apg. Scott Cutley has been a force in the low post and he is turning in 15.4 ppg and a team-high 8.6 rpg, while Robinson adds 12.1 ppg and 5.5 rpg. Overall, Fullerton is one of the top scoring teams in the nation, averaging an impressive 86.5 ppg on 47.4 percent shooting from the field.
Fullerton has struggled against Pacific over the past several years, but that all could change tonight. The Titans are simply the deeper and more explosive team here and they have the type of talent to pull away from the Tigers in this one.
