Baseball: Titans take road show to Oklahoma

One of the longer road trips that Cal State Fullerton has ever undertaken continues this weekend in Stillwater, OK, home of the Oklahoma State Cowboys.  It has been an outstanding trip for the Titans thus far with three wins at what had previously been a red hot Southern Mississippi team followed by a midweek win at Texas A&M, who is ranked in the top 10.  Fullerton scored in double digits in all four games.  Fullerton is on a nine game winning streak going into their four game weekend, with two games scheduled against Oklahoma State and two against Rhode Island.

Rhode Island has gotten off to a fast start at 7-2, with wins over NC State, Miami and Ohio State.  The Rams have an experienced squad that was picked to finish 3rd in the Atlantic 10 behind Charlotte and Xavier and have won 30+ games in four of the last five seasons.  Rhode Island comes into this weekend on a six game winning streak.

Oklahoma State is one of the traditional powers in college baseball with 19 College World Series appearances, although the Cowboys are anxious to return to Omaha after not playing there since 1999.  Oklahoma has gotten off to an excellent start at 11-2 and is rated #3 in both RPI and ISR, behind only Fullerton and TCU, and is ranked between #12 and #19 in all four major polls. The Cowboys haven't been padding their stats with creampuffs at home because the games this weekend will be their first games at home after going 7-2 on the road the last two weeks.  Teams they have played include East Carolina, College of Charleston, Oregon State, UC Riverside and Arizona.

Allie Reynolds Stadium is one of the most tradition laden ballparks in college baseball and has hosted many regionals over the years.  Oklahoma State has been outstanding there with a 721-150 record since the ballpark opened, including a 56-10 record the last two seasons.  The dimensions are 330-390-400-385-330 and the ball flies out to RF, where the wind usually blows straight out.  The ballpark factor according to Boyd's World is 121, which means that the ballpark helps increase offensive production by 21%.

This figures to be an interesting weekend in Stillwater with the unusual format of playing four games in three days, including a DH on Friday.  Also, the elements could be a factor because the weather forecast looks pretty nasty for most of the weekend.  Fullerton and Oklahoma State have been two of the hotter teams in the country considering the level of competition that both teams have been playing.  Rhode Island has been playing surprisingly well against the better teams on their schedule.  Fullerton has been clicking in all phases of their game and it would be considered a disappointment if the Titans didn't go 3-1 this weekend.  Splitting both games with Oklahoma State won't be easy, considering the caliber of their SP's and how well they play at home, but that is definitely possible the way the Titans are hitting, pitching and playing defense.  Fullerton should be able to win both games against Rhode Island.
