D.J. Shelton, a 6-8, 220 pound post player from East Bakersfield High School, has signed a national letter of intent to continue his career at Cal State Fullerton. Shelton, the cousin of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's Titus Shelton, says he chose the Titans over schools such as Creighton, Pepperdine, Fresno State, Hawaii and numerous Big West programs.
Shelton averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks a game during his senior year of high school.
"I really like the location of Cal State Fullerton," Shelton said. "I felt really comfortable with coach Newman and the rest of the coaches."
Shelton also said the opportunity to play right away and Cal State Fullerton's up-tempo play were determining factors in selecting Cal State Fullerton.
Titan fans will be happy to hear they will not have to wait too long to see Shelton demonstarte his skills. Shelton says he plans to play in the Say No Summer League. "I am going to work hard in the summer to get my game ready for the next level," he said. "Getting bigger and stronger is what I will be focusing on."
Based on some footage found on the internet by poster eleFANtitus, Shelton has some serious game for a player his size. Sources also say he is a great signing for the school and is a player who can shoot it and has some very good moves around the basket.
