Cal State Fullerton Nets Small Forward

Fullerton, Calif. - Letter of Intent day began on Wednesday and it's starting to pay dividends for the Cal State Fullerton basketball program. The Titans have signed their second player in a 6-5 small forward from the Junior College ranks.

Robbie Robinson, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound small forward, has signed a national letter of intent to begin his collegiate basketball career at Cal State Fullerton.

Robinson, a native of California, played at Riverside Community College where the Tigers upset Saddleback College for the State Championship. Robinson averaged 16.4 points a game and 7.1 rebounds a contest for Coach Jon Smith.

Robinson said that every Big West school, sans Northridge, was recruiting him and he chose Cal State Fullerton "because I've always wanted to be a Titan."

"I recruited Cal State Fullerton out of high school and told Coach Newman I wanted to come here," says Robinson. "I kept it quiet for awhile but I committed much earlier."

Robinson, who shot 42% from beyond the arc, said the coaches, style of play and being close to home (Northridge) and his girlfriend (Riverside) were also factors in his decision.

Robinson, who was named to the all-tournament team at the state finals, is a first-team all-league selection. As a freshman he averaged 4.3 points and 2.5 rebounds a game.
