Walls Picks Bears

McDonough (Ga.) Eagles Landing Christian Academy safety Avery Walls had over 30 offers but in the end he verbally committed to Cal over Michigan and Oregon…

Avery Walls (5-11, 190), during an early Tuesday morning ceremony, picked California in front of friends, coaches, teammates, and faculty.

"It's a long way from home, but the coaches and teammates I've met there are going to be my family," Walls told the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

"In the end, it came down to academics. I wanted a degree that was going to last a lifetime. That was the case with all my finalists."

Walls will be an early enrollee at Cal. He will play in the U.S. Army All-American game on Jan. 8 then report to Berkeley between Jan. 10-12. Walls is hard-hitting safety evident by an earlier quote he gave Scout.com. "I'm not 6-foot-2, but I play like I'm 6-4. I used to play hockey, so I love running up to people and hitting them. I'm tough. I'm also very versatile and can play cornerback too.

"I want to improve my ball skills. I'd like to be more flexible and my hips, so I can change direction even faster."
