Cal Eyeing 2012 DT

Edwardsville (Ill.) defensive tackle Vincent Valentine is a coveted 2012 recruit because of his size and athleticism. The four-star prospect has 11 offers, and gave Scout this update on his recruitment...

Already one of the most sought after prospects in the Midwest, Edwardsville defensive tackle Vincent Valentine is a 6-4, 300-lb bull with explosiveness and strength to spare.

Valentine attended Monday's Core 6 Winter Showcase, even though an injury kept him from participating, but updated Scout on his offer list, which now stands at 11.

"I have Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa, Oklahoma, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Auburn, Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin," he reported.

Of course, those aren't the only schools recruiting him. Valentine has numerous others on his trail, and they may add to his offer list.

"Oregon, Alabama, California, Texas A&M, Syracuse, there are a lot of other schools."

During the fall, Valentine only had a chance to see one game, but it was worth the trip.

"I went to see Illinois play Minnesota at Illinois. I liked it. It's a nice, laid back atmosphere. It's cool. I like it more lively, but it's pretty nice."

This spring, Valentine says he plans on going to Missouri and Kansas State's junior days. He may attend more, but has not decided yet, the same on summer camps.

He says he is in no hurry to make a decision, but he would like to stay in the Midwest, and that's why three schools in particular are ahead of the game right now.

"Everybody's kind of the same, but three that stand out to me are Mizzou, Iowa and Wisconsin," he explained. "I'm looking for great location 'cause I want my parents be able to come see me play more than once or twice in a year. I'm looking for great coaches, connect with them, and be able to see myself playing for them for four years."
