Sacramento (Calif.) Grant defensive tackle Viliami Moala was supposed to visit Oregon State this weekend, but didn't make it to Corvallis.
Instead, he visited Berkeley officially, taking a much-awaited trip to the school he's committed to.
"I went to Cal this weekend instead of Oregon State," said Moala. It was a great trip. Me and Joel Willis (another Cal commit), were the only two visitors. Isi Sofele was my host."
Moala had been to Cal on numerous occasions, but said this one was better than any other.
"Before this weekend, I really didn't have a good look at the academic situation but they laid it all out for me," said Moala. "It's a good situation for me at Cal."
Moala said with just him and Willis, they got a lot of attention from head coach Jeff Tedford and defensive line coach Tosh Lupoi.
"Coach Lupoi was giving me a hard time for making him sweat before I committed," joked Moala. "But he and Coach Tedford are all excited about me coming there."
And Moala is hoping to be on the field early.
"They're one nose, Aaron Tipoti, has an injury on his shoulder and it's an eight month healing process, so I'm the only nose guard that's available."
Moala said he's focused on earning a starting slot next year.
"Starting as of right now, I'm going to work towards it and to be the best I can," said Moala.
