Cal training camp quick hits: August 13

The banged-up Bears will not be in pads Tuesday ahead of their first scrimmage of fall camp on Wednesday.

BERKELEY, Calif. – The second set of two-a-days during fall camp for California saw a marked improvement, but at a cost as the Bears continue to deal with additional injuries.

-Tight ends Richard Rodgers (shoulder) and Spencer Hagan did not practice Monday, leaving extra reps for freshman Maximo Espitia and junior college transfer Harrison Wilfrey.

Hagan will return for the Bears' first scrimmage Wednesday, head coach Jeff Tedford said, not addressing when Rodgers would return.

-Wide receiver Maurice Harris was sidelined with a sore knee.

-Wide receivers Chris Harper and Bryce Treggs have moved to the front of the pack among the five freshmen and will likely be in the rotation this season.

-Tedford said Tuesday's practice would be in helmets only, focusing on mental and situational work ahead of the scrimmage.

-The new sound system at Memorial Stadium was tested, while Cal practiced at Witter Rugby Field. Tedford said he was down on the field of the renovated venue for the first time Monday.
