A Night to Remember

After a night in Anaheim with the Cal coaching staff, offensive line prospect Chris Borrayo has a time table for his commitment announcement.

After the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Carson, Calif., on Friday, the California coaching staff – seven strong – set up shop in the Anaheim Hilton, ready to welcome the seven commits from the game, as well as other All-American targets and local prospects.

Aside from jumbo athlete Austin Hooper, the Bears are heavily recruiting 6-foot-4, 290-pound Paramount (Calif.) three-star offensive lineman Chris Borrayo, and the No. 54 guard in the nation is responding to all the attention.

"Yeah, it was really nice to be able to meet all the coaches there," Borrayo said. "They're all very energetic, cool people."

Borrayo brought his father along to the hospitality suite set up by the Cal coaching staff, which included helmets, jerseys and highlight films, as well as some one-on-one time with the staff. For Borrayo, with the Bears having not officially announced Zach Yenser as the new offensive line coach, that means one-on-one time with Rob Likens, Cal's new wide receivers coach and Borrayo's primary recruiter.

"He says that I'm a big dude, and he loves to see what I have in O-linemen," Borrayo said.

Borrayo is an unfailingly bright prospect, with good size, speed and above all, athleticism, with a broad-shouldered frame and not much bad weight.

Borrayo's father was very much taken with the attention his son was receiving, and with the whole set-up.

"He loves that kind of stuff. He was very excited to meet all of the coaches, and he loves it when the coaches are interested in me," said Borrayo. "I was there right after all of the commits from the All-American game started coming in."

After the night in Anaheim, it may just be a matter of time for Borrayo before he winds up pulling the trigger.

"They're my top school, right now, I know that," Borrayo said. "My decision, my commitment, probably by the end of this month."
