The Goff Republic

SAN FRANCISCO -- 2013 early-enrollee quarterback Jared Goff joins us on the eve of his official visit to Cal, and dishes on recruiting and the rest of the 2013 class.

SAN FRANCISCO -- In our first Bear Republic Podcast of 2013 straight from The Republic, at 3213 Scott St., in the Marina District of San Francisco, we have a special treat for Cal fans.

One year ago, early-enrollee quarterback Zach Kline joined us over the phone as he prepared to start classes, and this year, we have Semper Fidelis All-American quarterback Jared Goff join the party.

Goff opens up about the tumultuous recruiting atmosphere with the coaching change in Strawberry Canyon, gives scouting reports on some of the Bears' remaining offensive targets, expounds on his All-American experience in Southern California and previews his upcoming official visit this weekend.

Then, we break down the final stretch of the 2013 recruiting cycle, the new coaching hires to Sonny Dykes's staff, the coaching hire yet to come, defensive coordinator Andy Buh's performance in the Rose Bowl coaching Wisconsin's linebackers, the performances of Cal commits and targets in the various All-American games and how the new staff will utilize the current talent in two completely new schemes on both sides of the ball. We also break down a few positional battles on offense, defense and special teams, including quarterback, offensive line and kicker, where Matt Anderson will battle incumbent Vince D'Amato this spring as he enters early, along with roommate Goff.
