Mike Previews Cal Visit

Andrew Mike will be in Berkeley this weekend for a two-day visit to Cal which will include an unusual stop not on a normal campus tour.

When Andrew Mike steps into a UC Berkeley classroom on Monday morning, surrounded by California football players, he certainly won't look out of place.

No, Mike is not enrolling a year early. The 6-foot-7, 270-pound offensive tackle out of Tucson (Ariz.) Sabino is just visiting on Sunday and Monday for an unofficial trip to Berkeley, so that he can get to know the new coaching staff in person.

"I'm going to meet the new coaches, and on Monday, I get to sit in on a class and see how that feels," Mike said. "Coach (Zach) Yenser said he was going to try and get me in with a few of the football players. Hopefully, it'll be a science."

Mike said that he's not sure about just what he wants to major in, but he does know that he wants it to have something to do with the hard sciences. His time in Northern California, though, won't all be about lectures and notes; he's also going to get a closer look at the offense he could potentially be playing in.

"I'm definitely excited to watch their practice film, because I know their new offense is fast-paced," Mike said. "They said we'll watch tape, hang out and do everything. They haven't told me much about the offense, but I was reading up on the new head coach and the style he brings is fast-paced, and it's definitely a cool addition."

Mike himself plays in an up-tempo offense for Sabino, though not quite the Tony Franklin System.

"Our high school runs fast-paced, so I'm pretty used to it," Mike said. "It's just a tempo spread."
