VISIT REPORT: Who's Your Mama

When he finally showed up for the closing of the NFTC in Oakland, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive lineman Damien Mama had a different look about him.

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive lineman Damien Mama was conspicuously absent from Sunday's NFTC event at Laney College, at least until the very end of the event, after all the MVP awards had been handed out. It was only then that the 6-foot-5, 340-pounder emerged from the shimmering heat to stroll around the field, and he did it wearing a Cal baseball cap, bearing the California classic block C.

"It was my second time there, and I liked my visit so much that I just had to get a little souvenir," said Mama, who spent the morning in Berkeley, taking a campus tour and speaking with head coach Sonny Dykes, as well as offensive line coach Zach Yenser.

"I was on campus for a couple hours, and coach Yenser met me and gave me a tour," Mama said. "It was pretty nice. I got to see all the facilities and a lot of the actual campus. Seeing all the buildings, that was pretty cool."

Mama spoke quite a bit with Yenser during the campus tour, and then sat down for a one-on-one with Dykes, the second time the big lineman has spoken with the Bears skipper. The main topics of conversation were how much Cal wants the four-star big man, as well as how neatly he fits into the new Bear Raid since, as his quarterback Josh Rosen said earlier this weekend, both the Bears and the Braves run similar offenses.

"We talked about what I should look for after football, too," Mama said. "The degree that I'd get from Cal-Berkeley would be a really big thing." Top Stories
