Kansas State Pledge Talks Cal Offer

Barry Sacks is ready for a battle, as Cal extends a scholarship offer to current Kansas State defensive end commit C.J. Reese.

Two weeks ago, three-star San Antonio (Tex.) Madison defensive end C.J. Reese knew that an offer from California was in the works, and on Wednesday, he picked up the phone and called Golden Bears defensive ends coach Barry Sacks and learned that, yes, he finally did have that offer from Cal.

"I was just happy, because it's a dream come true, with all these offers coming," Reese said. "It's another step in recruiting, and we'll see where it goes from there, but right now, Kansas State is my No. 1 choice. Things can change, but I don't know about that right now."

The Wildcats pledge had previously said that he was a "soft verbal," but since he's been garnering more and more interest lately, the Kansas State staff has tightened their grip, speaking with Reese more and more.

"I'm not going to say anything right now, because right now, I love Kansas State, and I've been talking with the coach, building a good relationship with coach Snyder and coach Dimel and coach Latimore," Reese said. "We've also been talking about playing time my freshman year, so I don't think it could get much better than that. If schools wanted me, they could have offered before, but right now, I'm with Kansas State."

That said, Reese is still listening to the Bears.

"He said that I'm a good defensive end, with good hands and good feet, and that he really wants me," Reese said of his talk with Sacks. "He said I'm the No. 1 guy that they want right now for Cal, and he said he really wants me. He said that they'll talk to me more over the summer, and we'll go from there."

Reese said that if he makes a trip out to Berkeley, it will likely be on an official, as he is spending the summer "working out, hitting the gym hard and taking my visit up to Kansas State."
