Cameron Walker took some time out of his busy Las Vegas schedule this weekend at the Adidas Nations camp to exchange a flurry of text messages and phone calls with several college coaches, including California head coach Mike Montgomery.
"I thought he was a really nice guy," said Walker, the four-star forward out of Santa Maria (Calif.) Righetti. "We just texted, and he said that he's looking forward to watching me play and how I can develop, and hopefully, I get to go up there soon. We only talked briefly, but I had a good discussion with him."
Montgomery also spoke with Eric Walker, Cameron's father, earlier in the day on June 15, the first day that college coaches could contract 2015 prospects.
"He reached out and called and wanted to make sure we knew that Cal was extremely interested, so that was pretty neat," Eric Walker said. "But, Cameron couldn't really talk to him because we're here at Adidas Nations, so he said to make sure that I let Cameron know that he called."
Cameron and Montgomery did eventually hook up via text, of course, whetting the 6-foot-7, 185-pounder's appetite for an upcoming trip to Berkeley on June 26.
"It'll definitely be exciting, because I've heard a lot about it, so I want to see it with my own eyes," Cameron said.
