California has received its 10th commitment of the 2014 class just before the Bears hit the field for their 10th practice of fall camp: Devante Downs.
Though Downs is rated as a three-star fullback -- the No. 1 fullback in the class -- a source told BearTerritory that he will be an athlete, able to play on both sides of the ball once he comes to Berkeley.
As a junior rushed for 1,270 yards and 23 touchdowns, while adding six sacks and 17 tackles for loss at linebacker.
Downs is a superior all-around athlete, with size and speed enough to be both an effective ball-carrier, as well as a linebacker, which is where he worked out during the summer during the NFTC circuit.
The Lynwood (Wash.) Mountlake Terrace prospect tore his ACL over the summer and will be out for his senior season, injuring the knee during Oregon State's prospect camp, as he was going to stiff-arm a cornerback.
