Seven-Footer Talks Cal Official

The Cal basketball team will be hosting a big weekend on Sept. 14, in more ways than one, with seven-footer Thomas Welsh scheduled to be on-hand. He previews his visit with BearTerritory.

The California football team won't be the only Golden Bears squad to be hosting a big visit weekend when Ohio State comes to town on Sept. 14. The Cal basketball team is going to have some guests of their own, in commit Ahmaad Rorie and Los Angeles Loyola seven-footer Thomas Welsh.

"I just really like the coaches, and I think we definitely work," Welsh said. "It's definitely a good fit for me, so I want to go up there and see what it's like during a regular day of school, and get to hang out with the players and get a lot of information from them."

Welsh has made one unofficial trip to Berkeley, but that was during the summer. When he comes up with Rorie for the weekend, he'll get to see and speak with the players and experience truly everything the campus has to offer.

"I've played with some of the players, and I've played against a couple of the players, so we'll get to catch up a little bit," Welsh said. "I've played against Jordan Mathews and Kameron Rooks."

Having Rorie come the same weekend could prove to be a big feather in Cal's cap, as the point guard commit – dynamic both on and off the floor – has been not only faithful to the Bears since he committed way back in March of last year, but he's also been a tireless recruiter, as well. Not to be lost in the shuffle, though, is the game day atmosphere, as Berkeley will be in full flower with the Buckeyes coming to town.

"That's definitely going to be a big part," Welsh said. "It's really going to be a lot of fun, and my parents are definitely looking forward to it."

Welsh is also in the process of setting up visits to UCLA and Colorado. Top Stories
