BERKELEY -- After California center Chris Adcock went down with what the Bears are calling a season-ending knee injury.
A source close to Adcock indicated earlier this week that the injury was a torn ACL and PCL, but Cal did not release the exact nature of the injury.
Adcock was injured during Wednesday's practice, and his loss could very well be worse than a starting quarterback going down, because of the onus placed on the center in the Bear Raid offense to call the cadence and the snap count.
With second-string center Matt Cochran -- who played center during spring ball while Adcock recovered from surgery – out for at least two more weeks with a high ankle sprain, the Bears will likely start redshirt senior Mark Brazinski, a national semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy (formerly the Draddy, also known as the Academic Heisman), against Washington State. Brazinski has played in five games off the bench during his Cal career.
During the week, Bill Tyndall got some center snaps with the second team, and Jordan Rigsbee is also an option. Second-team left guard Chris Borrayo started snapping on Wednesday with offensive line coach Zach Yenser, and he certainly has the hand-size for it. Yenser was heard asking for a "regulation-size ball" after seeing the true freshman's hand envelop the pigskin.
